Old Navy in Burlington, MA recently hosted 17 members of the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn for Camp Old Navy! Youth were able to visit the store and shadow the employees for a day of fun and learning. Club members learned how to operate the store’s registers, how to design displays on the floor and also were able to put together outfits that were displayed in the fitting room. At the end of the day, the kids engaged in an informative Question & Answer session with the employees. It was an excellent day of career exploration for our kids! Our Club is very grateful for the opportunity to partner with Old Navy for this important program.

Summer Camp Celebrates Marriott Day
It’s become a great annual summer tradition at the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn. Marriott Day! On July 31, 2015 employees of local Marriott hotels volunteered their time to host a fun and exciting field day for all of our summer campers.
They provided a delicious barbecue, bounce houses, Richie’s Slush, and even a dunk tank where campers were able to sink their favorite camp counselors! The Club is so fortunate for their great partnership with Marriott and their Spirit to Serve initative, which makes is fun event possible each year.
Whole Foods Market Woburn Donation
Four times each year, Whole Foods Market Woburn donates 5% of the day’s sales to a selected local charity and this time the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn was chosen to receive funding to support our fitness and nutrition programs. The most recent 5% Day was held on June 10, 2015. More than $4,000 was raised for the Club! Pictured with our Executive Director Julie Gage are Sarah Knight and Derek Shadeed of Whole Foods. After the Cameras Leave
Club Teens Support Joplin, MS
The Intrepid Keystone Club of the Boys & Girls Club of Woburn recently volunteered with Rebuild Joplin as part of their “After the Cameras Leave” project. The project is a national initiative to encourage youth to raise awareness for areas affected by disaster even after the media has left and they are no longer part of national news headlines. On May 22, 2011 a tornado ripped through Joplin, Missouri leaving 3 million square feet of debris and 9,200 citizens essentially homeless. Upon hearing of this devastation, the teens spent the year fundraising for a service trip to help support the rebuilding efforts that are ongoing almost a year and a half after the storm. To date over 144,000 people have volunteered 877,000 hours to these efforts. Six teen members of the Keystone program volunteered with Rebuild Joplin projects that ranged from cleaning out a home to preparing three foundations for new homes. Members saw firsthand the long term effects of natural disasters and that the impact of volunteers can make all the difference.
