Service Learning Groups – Accepting New Members!

Become a member of one of our service learning groups and learn to be a leader and make new friends all while giving back to your community and your Club!  Email Meg at m.gambale@bgcwoburn.org with specific questions and learn more about these programs here!


Gemstones

Gemstones is a drop-in program that meets weekly on Wednesdays @ 4:00 p.m. during the school year.  All elementary members are welcome to participate and just need to show up at the Club to join!  Learn the basics of community service from Keystone mentors though special service projects based on members interests and passions!  There is no application for this program although weekly participation is encouraged for more impact.


Tanners Torch Club

The Tanners Torch Club meets weekly on Wednesdays @ 7:00 p.m. for the school year.  This group is designed for our middle school members who are interested in community service and leadership development.  Interested middle school members must attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Clubhouse.  At this meeting members will learn more about the expectations and commitments of being a member and be given all information to apply to be a part of this program.


Woburn Youth Council

The Woburn Youth Council meets weekly on Tuesdays @ 7:00 p.m. from October to June.  Teens in grades 7-12 are welcome to join this group of motivated Club members seeking to create real change in their community.  The Woburn Youth Council works with our SCI AmeriCorps members on initiatives based on the passions of our teens!  Please join us at our interest meeting on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. to learn more.  Enrollment in the WYC is rolling and applications are accepted on a rolling basis, although early enrollment is encouraged!


Intrepid Keystone Club

The Intrepid Keystone Club will be accepting new members for the 2018-2019 program year.  Interested high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are invited to apply.  This group meets weekly on Wednesdays @ 8:00 p.m year round.  A complete application must be submitted to the front desk of the Club by Wednesday, October 10, 2018 by 7:00 p.m. to be considered.

Members interested in receiving Y.E.S. hours but not looking to join a structured, service-learning group should keep an eye on our social media and our website for opportunities that arise throughout the year!

Become a Club Member!

The 2018-2019 program year is underway at the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club!

Interested youth and teens will need to register for the 2018-2019 program  year.  All prior memberships expired on August 31, 2018.  An active membership will allow youth and teens, ages 8 to 18, to participate in our drop-in activities for the school year.  A membership to the Club costs just $25.00.  Please note there is no walk-in registration for the Clubhouse.  Paperwork and payment must only be submitted during orientations or registration times.  Memberships must be renewed and payment must be submitted before members can attend the Clubhouse.

Head back to school and back to swim lessons with the Club!

Registration for a six-week session of fall swimming lessons will take place Wednesday, September 12, 2018 beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Slots for swimming lessons will fill on a first come, first served basis.

The James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn is excited to announce the registration information for the 2018-2019 drop-in program!

New members, accompanied by a guardian, must attend an orientation before enrolling and attending the program.  Registration for returning members will only occur during renewal times.  There is no walk-in registration.  Memberships must be renewed and payment must be submitted before members can attend the Clubhouse.  All prior memberships expired on August 31, 2018.  Orientations & renewal times are listed below and more will be added in the future.

L.E.A.P. Childcare Now Enrolling!

Have you heard the good news?

We are opening up a childcare program for ages 2.9 and older at the Jamie McKeown Boys & Girls Club!

L.E.A.P. Childcare is now enrolling for its preschool and pre-K classrooms, opening in September.  To learn more information or schedule a tour of our classrooms, contact Gabrielle Grasso, Childcare Director.

Join the 2018-2019 Lucky’s Lobsters Swim Team!

A new season of swimming is approaching & we hope you’ll consider joining Lucky’s Lobsters Swim Team!

Lucky’s Lobsters is a competitive & recreational swim program for swimmers ages 6-18.  The regular season takes place September through March. The team competes in the Northeastern New England Area Program Council swim league against area Boys & Girls Clubs from November through January. For those swimmers looking for more competition, US Swimming meets are also available.  Please speak with one of the coaches or ask about it at our upcoming parent informational meeting.

Daily Free Swim Added!

Free Swim for Members, Every Day 4:30 to 5:30!

Dive into June with MORE swimming!

 

The drop-in Clubhouse is excited to begin Daily Free Swim!  Members are welcome to join in every day from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. starting Wednesday, June 6, 2018.  All interested members should bring a towel, bathing suit and a change of dry clothes for after to participate.  We look forward to more time in the pool this June!

 

 

Community Notice: Intent to Apply

Intent to Apply – 21st CCLC Grant Funding

James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn hereby notifies the local community of our intention to apply to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 21st Century Community Learning Centers program grant to support out of school time (OST) programming at the Shamrock Elementary School in Woburn, MA.  The Club will submit the application to DESE in May of 2018. If granted, funds will be used to support additional learning time at the Shamrock Elementary School in Woburn, MA. The Club is applying to become a Demonstration Site within the 21st CCLC program.

 

The purpose of the federally-funded Massachusetts 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Grant is to support additional learning time for students in grades K-12 before and/or after school and during the summer that provides creative and engaging academic enrichment opportunities that will help to address college and workforce readiness and success.
