Polar Plunge a Great Success!

Freezin’ For a Reason!

The first ever Polar Plunge to support the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn was a tremendous success! More than $7,000 (with donations still coming in!) was raised to support the mission of the Club, inspiring youth to find their greatness. 50 brave Club supporters, ranging in age from 8 years to 78 years, dunked into frigid, icy Horn Pond.  A crowd of spectators cheered them on on a rainy Sunday afternoon.  The event was spearheaded by Drew Crawford of the Club’s Board of Directors.

Pizza was generously donated by Gloria’s Pizza, Romas Bakery, Toscano’s Pizza, Mike’s Pizza, Pizza Market, My Brother’s Place, Lisa’s Pizzeria and UNOs of Woburn.

Special thanks to John Devine and North Suburban Transportation for supplying the school bus to bring participants and spectators to and from Horn Pond. Fire Chief Stephen Adgate, Deputy Chief Clark Kenton, and Group 2 Captain George Poole had many firefighters in survival suits and standing by to support the safety of all involved. Woburn Police also dispatched Officer Joe Wells and Officer Dana Gately to assist with the traffic in the area. Additional thanks to Woburn’s City Council, Recreation Commission, and Mayor Scott Galvin (who also jumped in with us!) for their support and approval of the event.

The Polar Plunge was a tremendous success and we are already planning for 2019! Thank you to everyone who showed their support!
